Makram Nu’Man El-Amin, Resident Imam of Masjid An-Nur, Minneapolis, MN.  The second of five children; Makram was born in Chicago and has resided in Minneapolis since 1976.   Makram was born into an Islamic environment as his parents – Charles and Arlene, converted to Islam in 1958, 15 years before his birth.

Makram graduated from North High School/Minneapolis in 1988; attended Olive Harvey College in Chicago, IL and the University of MN in Minneapolis.

In September 1996, Makram was overwhelmingly ratified as the youngest resident Imam of Masjid An-Nur.  He has made several strides to become a viable member of Minneapolis Islamic and broader community:

1997

Established El-Amin Properties – providing housing for 20+ low-income rental units

1998-1999

Co-Founder of Muslim American Society of Young Adults

(Their first conference in December 1998 drew 50 participants)
Established “House of Peace” Supportive Housing

MICAH (Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing–board member

1999

Muslim delegate of interfaith conference with Pope John Paul II in Rome Italy

2000

Member of local clergy that met with The Dalai Lama on his visit to Minneapolis

2001

Established El-Amin Properties – providing housing for 20+ low-income rental units

2002

Co-Owner of The Fish House Restaurant (April) Convened fourth annual conference of Muslim American Society of Young Adults with over 500 participants Member of Minneapolis Downtown Clergy Association

2003

Commissioner to African-American Men Project

Completed fith rite of Islamic Pillars of Faith – by making Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia with 500 member US delegation

Makram and his wife Sharon have 3 children: Raheema, Malik and Nasir
